  1. Vymezení a typologie vodních útvarů povrchových vodJosef K. Fuksa, T.G.M. Water Research Institute, PragueMKOL/IKSE, Dresden, 4 MAR 2005

  2. Flussgebietseinheit – Oblast povodí – R.B.D. (Labe/Elbe): Main unit for management of river basins • WB – a coherent subunit in the RBD to which the environmental objectives must apply. • Main purpose of identifying WBs is to enable the status to be accurately described and compared to Objectives.

  3. Water body - WFD 2 (10): • ”Body of surface water” means a discrete and significant element of surface water… • "Oberflachenwasserkörper": ein einheitlicher und bedeutender Abschnitt • ”Útvar povrchové vody” je vymezitelný a významný prvek …..

  4. UPSTREAM

  5. DOWNSTREAM

  6. Number of river WBs River Basin District Elbe, Czech Rep.:

  7. Typology of WBs: • Find type reference conditions. • Compare the status. • Express ecol. status as EQR. • Define Objectives. • Set Measures. • Control the success (R.B.M.P.).

  8. Typology in CR: • Related to WBs. • System A + ammendments: • Altitude 200-500, 500-800 m. • Strahler order (4 - 8). • Numerical code (ecoregion 9) • Lakes = HMWBs.

  9. Czech typology – example: WB 1465300: Labe between Bilina and Hrensko – type 41148: • 4 Ecoregion: 9 • 1 Altitude: < 200 m • 1 Geology: Si • 4 Basin area: >10 000 km*2 • 8 Strahler Order: 8

  10. Typology in BRD - Steckbriefe: • Related to rivers / river types. • Based on System „B“. • Descriptors from System „A“: • Ecoregion (9, 14 + non-ecoregion). • Geology. • Catchment area. • Other characteristics (phys. chemistry, biology).

  11. Specific items of typology • BRD: Bottom substrate. • CR: Strahler Order (at the closing profile of the WB). • Polska: Strahler Order. • Österreich: Combined typology.

  12. Number of types: • BRD: 19 types (+ Si/Ca branching). • CR: 22 types with > 5 WBs, covering 95% of river WBs. • Boundary WBs: Simple „A“ typology could be used.

  13. Good WB status upstream= an important condition forgood WB status downstream
