Course 2 : ACCELERATOR TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATION LECTURES
Course 2 : ACCELERATOR TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS TUTORIAL
1. The location of the school A = 44% B = 44% C=12% « Easy to access with the highway » « A car is necessary for the shopping » « A little bit isolated and there is no supermarkets » « Archamps is very quiet » 2. Accommodation in the Grand Angle Residence « LOGITOP » A = 80% B = 20% « Large appartments, useful, underground car park is really good in winter » « No internet accesses» « Quick help if needed » 3. The school facilities (lecture hall, library, Internet access, Photocopying) A = 65% B= 35% Library : « Taking from CERN library enough yellow books and giving them to us on the first day, so that we can study with them from beginning » Computer room : « We need new computers with USB ports and windows XP » « Internet access cumbersome with own laptop. Please install Wireless » 4. The Staff (availability, providing information/assistance) 100% GOOD « Really interesting, lectures, lecturers hepful, they do not hesitate to take much time to explain difficult points » « The staff always tries to help us » « Simply perfect! » « Special thanks to Joël, Séverine & Fabienne to take onto account in every situation the needing and the request of the students » 5. Do you feel the school should propose and/or organise social activities for the students (bearing in mind the school’s limited resources and the different interests of participants)? What sort of activities? « The trip is a good idea but maybe not the weekend before the exams » « No, because there is a lot of works to do in a limited time. So the students should concentrate on the lectures and repeat them every day to understand basic concepts » « The existing activities were excellent » 6. Would you recommend JUAS in its present form to a fellow student/colleague? 100% YES « Yes, for 3 reasons : accelerator knowledges, improving of English and meeting people from all the world » « A very nice experience » « Very professionnal » 7. Any other comments Lectures : « It is very important in an intensive course like JUAS that lecturers respect the schedule » « The level of some professors is very high » « Subjects were all very interesting and most of the professors were very good » « The time for studying is not enough. Maybe a different collocation of the lessons during the day could help the student to find a more efficient rythm in learning advanced concepts » Examinations : « Maybe it is better to let see the corrections of exams to the students before printing out the certificates » Visits : « the organised visits to CERN, Bergoz and hospital were very interesting » STUDENT IMPRESSIONS
