  1. Playwrighting Examples Conflict!

  2. August 30, 2012 • Warm Up: What does good design look like? What are some examples from TV, film, ect? • Objective: Students will understand dramatic structure by writing plays that contain conflict. This will be used as part of their first design project.

  3. Can you guess the conflict? • M: I just can’t believe it! • A: Look, I’m sorry! • M: How could you? After everything we went through? • A: I just…I just… • M: I can’t stand to look at you! • A: Don’t say that! • M: Just get away! You murderer!

  4. Actual Conflict Ideas • Death of pet or loved on • One did something terrible to a piece of property (topiaries, art work, ect…)

  5. Can you guess the conflict? • F: Where were you last night? • J: Out. • F: Out? Care to explain? • J: Not really. It’s none of your business! • F: No, you are my business! Where were you last night? • J: Why does it matter? I’m home now! • F: It’s a matter of trust, and I don’t know if I can trust you anymore!

  6. Actual Conflict Ideas • Child coming in later after curfew • Talent agent and their starlet who disappeared • Business partner who thinks the other is trying to sell them out of the business • Politicians who are trying to get what they want at the expense of their allies

  7. Can you guess the conflict? • T: How could you let this happen? • I: I don’t know…first they… (sobs) • T: What did they do to you? You look so… (I turns away) • I: Get away from me! • T: I care about you! • I: I don’t deserve it! I’m worthless! • T: Don’t ever say that. (Hugs I and pauses) We’ll get through this!

  8. Actual Conflicts • Concerned friend that domestic violence could be happening. • A sudden, rapid change in a friend • Coming home to find the place in a complete, disgusting mess • Hoarding of leftover food receptacles which has led to a deadly invasion of pests.
