‘Embryonic’ Church Vs. 16-17 The eleven disciples have received the Holy Spirit and are worshipping the resurrected Lord!
Question Does Jesus stop them from worshipping Him?
No—Instead He says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (vs. 18).
Question Who gave Him that power and authority?
Commentary God the Father gave Jesus the authority He possess: • Therefore, Jesus is Lord regardless of what I do with Him—He is still Lord! • I don’t make Him King—I either accept or reject Him as my Lord, but in either case He is still Lord.
Setting the Conditions • Having now established that He has the authority to make the following statement, Jesus gives the embryonic church of 11 apostles and others, under the sound of his voice, a commandment or a mission statement.
The Mission Increase the number of people who live for and worship Christ as their King.
Notice Vs. 17 After the resurrection, the conclusion the disciples reached was that Jesus was God—deserving of worship!
Matthew 28:19 • Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: • Go therefore and make disciples of all nations
Disciples of Christ • Disciples of Christ follow Jesus as their: • Teacher • Savior • King • Disciples of Christ • Serve • Worship
As a Church Our passion must be to see the entire city of Fayetteville wake up on Sunday morning and corporately worship Christ!
As a Church We should NOT be content with someone praying a “sinner’s prayer.”
Turn to 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10
1 Thess 1:9-10 • For they themselves shew [testify] of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; • And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
Commentary Key Traits of Genuine Conversion: • The Greeks from other areas report that the Thessalonians had repented of their idolatrous past, had committed themselves to serve God, and were waiting for Jesus' second coming—the key traits of genuine Christian conversion. ESV Study Bible
Baptism • Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: • Dunking them in the tank is NOT what baptism is all about!
Baptism Baptism is: • the public testimony that the size of the kingdom is growing. • Evidence that more people are REPENTING and placing their faith in Christ. • A sign that the number who understand that one God exists as God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit is increasing!
It’s NOT Pray a Prayer, Get Dunked, and Be on Your Way!
The Mission • The mission is to build communities of faith, churches, full of fully-functioning followers of Christ, disciples of Christ, who are committed to serving and worshipping Jesus as their only prophet, priest and king!
All the World • The collective, corporate mission of the church is to create disciples of Christ in all the world—all nations. Turn to Mark 16:15
Mark 16:15 • And he said unto them, • Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Romans 1:16 • For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Question Can you preach the gospel? Can you tell the story of the gospel?
Acts 1:8 • But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me [share the gospel] both in Jerusalem [Fayetteville], and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Matthew 28:19 • Goye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Why is it necessary to GO?
10k UPGs • Unreached People Group – • A UPG is a people group within which there is no viable indigenous church movement with sufficient strength, resources, and commitment to sustain and ensure the continuous multiplication of churches.
GO Reach UPGs • The existence of unreached people groups all over the globe requires that some Christians GO. • Each one reaching one will NOT work. • Intentionality is required for cross-cultural evangelism.

End state What is the end state of the mission from our King?
End State The OBJECTIVE IS: • Every tribe, clan, village, town, city on the planet has at least one solid Christ-exalting, gospel-centered, biblically-sound, indigenous church in it, full of people being discipled and reaching others to the glory of God.
Ultimate End State • After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; Rev 7:9
