  1. Chapter 7 7.5 Properties of Trapezoids

  2. Trapezoid Vocabulary BASE LEG LEG BASE

  3. Midsegment • A segment whose endpoints are the midpoints of a trapezoid legs • Parallel to each base • Length= ½ (sum of bases) b = (a + c)/2

  4. Isosceles Trapezoid • Nonparallel sides (legs) are congruent • Base angles are congruent (2 sets) • Diagonals are congruent

  5. Example: • Find the length of the midsegment: A(0,0) B(0,4) C(7,4) D(5,0) STEPS 1. Plot 2. Find the length of bases 3. Plug into: midsegment = ½ (sum of bases)

  6. Example • Find x, AB is the midsegment

  7. Example • Is this an Isosceles Trapezoid? 6.77 5.32 No, diagonals are not congruent

  8. Example • Is this an Isosceles Trapezoid? Yes, base angles are congruent

  9. Given: Isosceles Trapezoid ABCD DC = 2.56 TY = 1.28 YB = 3.15 AB = 9.92 XAS = 15 XAB = 54 X and Y are midpoints Find: DCB AD CYX XY DCA XS XSA ST Handout Example
