  1. DiDP the emerging Database Standard Database Seminar Karsten Noack, President & CEO

  2. What we had ... We hat to do everything by hand .... ... but we used our data in a straightforward and uncomplicated manner.

  3. SCHEME „A“ SCHEME „A“ SCHEME „A“ SCHEME „A“ SCHEME „A“ Database ... and what we got! Database applications are really highly useful ... ... as long nothing has to be changed !

  4. Questions ... Why can we only communicate comfortably with data bases, if someone has written a program for exactly this specific communication? ? Is it really important to find a better way programming? Perhaps the program is the problem itself ? Do we need programmed applications at all?

  5. What we need ... We need: • Flexibility for the user • Flexible, step-by-step development • Flexible (ad-hoc) access to data and functions and at the same time: • Restrictive business logic • High data security and availability • Centralized or decentralized data storage in relational databases

  6. The conclusion ... It means, we need a logical 3 tier architecture ! Presentation (User Interface) Programmed Application Business Logic (Meta data) Database Database

  7. meta data Direct processing ... The logical 3 tier architecture allows a “direct” processing of the data! Individual programming Direct Data Processing use of programmed applications prefabricated functionality rigidly programmed specialized application Fachdatenbank Fachdatenbank Fachdatenbank Fachdatenbank item database item database

  8. DiDP - Basics The Principle of Direct Data Processing (DiDP) About 1000precompiled standardizedfunctions SCOPELAND meta data interpreter Client / Application Server Meta data ascontrol parameters for the standardized functions Database Server advanced meta data Structures, relations Properties Business logic Processing logic Workflow model

  9. Finalize presentation layout The application generates itself in runtime Object view as a tree Save SCOPELAND applet applets DiDP - Basics How Direct Data Processing (DiDP) works Database as a relational net item database meta database advanced meta data

  10. DiDP - Ad hoc access Ad hoc mode, not only for developers: flexibility for power users ! Read & Write, according to the application logic ! active data view Personal Scope Global Scope

  11. DiDP - Applications Applications are linked applets, each maintains its flexibility ! applet applet applet applet applet applet

  12. Workflow (status dependence of steps, defined status settings) Events / Steps (external processing steps: macros, programs,... internal steps: temporary “Enabling” of business rules) Business Rules (status depending operating rules and properties of data: calculations, settings, plausibility, warnings, proposals, rights, and privileges) Static Properties (description and classifying of data, status non-depending (general) properties of data, relations according to the ER-model Advanced Meta Data

  13. Target The Range of Custom Database Applications SCOPELAND Excels Here Business Process Automation Management Information Custom Applications Information and decision oriented applications Operation and transaction oriented applications

  14. Target Today´s Trend: Standard Software for Custom Applications SCOPELAND Excels Here Doc Management Up to now: 100 % individual programming ! Business Intelligence Office Autom - Workflow Data Warehouse Workflow Products Data Wareh. Products
