Over the years.. • Started in 1989 with a group of 5 volunteers • At the end of 2011, over 130 people employed in three different centres in Vanuatu- Vila, Luganville, Loltong • Work in all islands around Vanuatu • Love Patrol shown on 10 Pacific TV stations, Maori TV and ABC International • 22 films made • IEC/BCC materials produced for secondary schools. Guide for Love Patrol 2 becomes curriculum for Family Life Education in Fiji • Many more……..
Media production 2011 • Launch LP4 October 11 & film LP5 • Layout and print guide for LP 4 • “Zero Balans” full length play - 22 performances May- July to 3,892 people • Tours of plays on sexual harrassment to communities on 3 islands, and in town. • Tours of films on electoral rights issues to remote communities- 8 villages in Big Bay- 700 people • Radio dramas on numeracy, (JICA) child protection (UNICEF) and nutrition (OXFAM) go out on radio • Distributed 16,427 of WSB Jan- June materials world wide (dvd’s, booklets, comics, BCC materials etc)
Youth activities • Education • Over 300 teachers, students and community members attended workshops in Vanuatu, Fiji & Solomon Islands • Youth Services • Three youth centers: Port Vila, Santo & Pentecost • Two new plays with over 30 youth. • Services offers activities for out of school youth • Computer, sports, music, literacy, self-defense, photography and many more
Good Governance activities 2011 • Work with communities on issues around family protection and sexual harassment • Improvised play on sexual harassment • Litter play reworked and performed in schools • Play on diabetes rehearsed and toured • Workshops with chiefs and community leaders • Detainees take courses at the center • Work with crime protection unit on the use of WSB materials.
Environment work • Network of 400 turtle monitors involved in workshops • Waste management work with school kids through the environmental commities • Regional work: attend the Turtle Symposiums (US/Aust/Tahiti) in the last two years • Disaster management comics for CARE
Sexual Health • Health • 2 RH clinics, one in Vila and one in Santo • Providing RH services – family planning, STI services, VCCT • Primary school students and year 10’s brought in to watch youth plays and visit clinic • Peer education programs in all 3 centers • Community workshops on RH (STI, HIV) • Mobile clinics to Etas other settlements • Work with sex workers and MSM’s
Work with MSM’s • Project with sex workers started in 2004 • Work to engage MSM’s began in 2005 • Support provided to group to • Organise members into a group to support each other • Assist members by providing RH information and referring them to RH services offered • Work with members to build their capacity in order to strengthen the group. • MSM character in series 3, 4 and 5 of Love Patrol
Education and materials distribution • Mobilising members has been difficult • Difficult to find people willing and committed enough to take the lead • Due to stigma and discrimination, some msm’s have decided not to join the group at this time • Our aim is to build the capacity of the members to undertake the role we are playing at the moment so we can move out – but it will take time
