  2. Katowice is one of the biggest Polish cities. It is located in the southern part of Poland, In the region called Silesia. Other big citiesin Poland are: Warsaw (capital), Cracow, Wroclaw,Poznan and Gdansk. Katowice Warsaw,Wroclaw,Poznan and Gdansk Will be the host cities for UEFA Euro2012.

Industral past of Katowice is connected with two districts : Giszowiec Nikiszowiec The settlements of Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec, unique in Europe,have their origins in 19th century when a German family that owned many coal mines in Silesiabuilt these districts as places to live for their employees and administrative staff.

The Kościuszko Park The parachoute tower The Kosciuszko Park , named after the Polish commaneder-in- chief , is one of the most frequently visited parks in Katowice. is a 50- meter- tall tower built in 1937 for training parachute jumps. In the first days of World War II it was the tragic place of death of Silesian scouts who fought against the Nazis.

Other unusual places in Katowice: Tenement houses in the city center „Altus”- buissness and enetertainment center is a monument that commemorates those who took part in the three Silesian Uprisings of 1919, 1920 and 1921, which aimed to make the region of Upper Silesia part of the newly independent Polish state.
