Breathing with Asthma • Before we breathed through the straws we all were relaxed and breathing normal. • When we breathed through bigger straw it got a little harder to breath but not much. • When we breathed through the tiny straw it was difficult to breath because the straw was to small to get as much air as we needed. • After we jumped around, jogged in place for a minute and then breathed through the smaller straw we all were tired and gasping for air. While doing this experiment we realized how hard it is for people with asthma to exercise and do daily tasks.
Questions and Answers • Do you feel there is a difference between asthma when living in a populated city or living out in the country? Why? • We think there is a difference between living in a country rather than a populated city because in the city there is a lot more air pollution than in the country. In the city people drive up and down the main roads all day long casing more air pollution that hurts your lungs. When living in the country there are less people and it is a smaller town which gives you an advantage of walking from place to place.
Emmitt J. Smith & Asthma • Emmitt J. Smith was born May 15th 1969. He battled asthma his whole life. He began his football career in college when he played for the University of Florida. He later on played football for the NFL in 1990 and played for 15 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. Even though Emmitt had asthma he still won the super bowl with the Cowboys and won MVP.
Why do more people have asthma now than they did 20 years ago? • More people have asthma now than they did 20 years ago because the air quality has gotten worse over 20 years. The air quality has worsened because of all of the air pollution that we make. If we all started to walk or ride bikes to close places in town we would be helping someone with asthma.
Air Quality • May 10th’s pollen forecast was 10.2 This is a very high number which means that our area has lots of pollen . Today our air quality is 5.3 which is a good number. The higher the air quality number is the cleaner the air is. The air quality is also affected by the pollen forecast because the more pollen there is the more pollutants or other substances are in the air. In Mays Landing our air quality is normal. We all should try to make our air quality better by not polluting the air as much. One way would be to walk or ride your bike somewhere instead of driving.
