SAE’s Liability • SAE is liable for the actions and conduct of its members • To reduce the organization’s overall liability and potential for loss and/or injury, SAE: • Utilizes a variety of risk mitigation techniques • Provide organizational resources • Limit Section & Chapter events Section and Chapter Risk Management
Section & Chapter Events • “Normal” Section & Chapter events/activities: • Technical meetings, facility tours, banquets and speaker sessions. • “High risk” events: • Any event serving/furnishing alcohol, CDS style events, ride & drive events, outings involving children under the age of 18, watercraft or boat cruises, athletic events, etc. • If your Section/Chapter is considering hosting or participating in an event that falls outside the aforementioned “normal” Section/Chapter activities, that you reach out to myself or to your SAE Section/Membership. Alcohol Best Practices • Try to have your event/gathering at a venue where they serve both food and coffee, (i.e. a restaurant or hotel). • Limit the selection of alcohol served to just beer and/or wine. • Limit the time frame that alcohol is served. • Limit the number of drinks that guests can have, (i.e. drink vouchers). • In accordance with organizational policies: • Members are NOT allowed to serve alcohol at SAE events • Section & Chapter funds can NOT be used to purchase alcohol Section and Chapter Risk Management
