Shared Writing Mrs. Anez is Missing Last Friday started out just like any other Friday in room 201 at George Hall School. The students were all working quietly on their Power Reading and Math assignments. Mrs. Anez took the snack order and was walking around the room checking our work. We all were excited about the Fun Friday activities that we were going to do later in the day. All of a sudden Mrs. Jackson called from the intercom. She needed Mrs. Anez to come to the office for a message. We were as quiet as mice as we waited for her return. We all were very surprised to see Mrs. Meangreen in the doorway. We knew right then that it was going to be a terrible day. As soon as Mrs. Meangreen stepped into the classroom the horror began. She gave us mountains of work to complete. She would not let us go to the library or take AR tests. Instead we had to write our library books three times. Our fingers ached from all of the busy work. To make things even worse Mrs. Meangreen would not let us have the snacks we ordered. She sat in the front of the classroom and devoured every one of our snacks. When it was time for PE we were told to stand by our tables and do 1,000 jumping jacks. It was torture! Later on it was time for lunch. At last we had a break from the wicked witch. As we moved through the line we became excited about the delicious cake that we saw. We didn’t get a snack so we looked forward to enjoying every nibble of the sweet treat. Oh were we wrong! Mrs. Meangreen stood at the end of the line and snatched every piece of cake off of every tray. To make things even worse we had to stand and eat. We were miserable. After we ate, Mrs. Meangreen announced that we had to clean the entire cafeteria. We worked our fingers to the bone scrubbing, wiping, and mopping. After lunch we marched back to our classroom. We felt like soldiers in awar. Mrs. Meangreen laughed as she told us that our Fun Friday was cancelled. She was so mean! Instead of enjoying a beautiful Friday afternoon, we wrote our times tables fifty times each. As we slaved over the assignment, Mrs. Meangreen hovered over the tables and rapped them with a yardstick. We all jumped out of our seats. It seemed as if time was standing still. We wondered if we would make it to dismissal. Suddenly we heard the classroom door open. At last Mrs. Anez was back. She explained that she had to leave school because Logan was sick. She then dismissed Mrs. Meangreen. We were so relieved. Mrs. Anez told us that Fun Friday was back on. We all cheered! We enjoyed a movie and popcorn. She even had a special snack for all of us. I hope Mrs. Meangreen never substitutes in my classroom again.
Modeled Writing Where do you like to go on a Friday night? I like to attend football games because of the energetic players, gleeful cheerleaders, and the entertaining band. Get ready to hear about this fantastic time! The players are what make a game action-packed. They race down the field trying to score. WACK! The players crash into one another. It looks like a multi-car pile-up after the players have piled on each other Excited cheerleaders root on their teams and entertain the crowds. They perform amazing stunts. You can hear their cheers fill the air. Cheerleaders lead the crowds in chants, cheers, and fun dances. A game would not be complete without the sounds of the band. The sounds of the beating drums make you want to dance. Girls in colorful uniforms wave flags high into the air. The band entertains the crown by breaking it down during half time! You should get yourself to a game as soon as possible! T - Where do you like to go on a Friday night? Shared Writing • Although I enjoy baseball games, football games are the best. I love to watch the energetic mascot, the excited fans, and devour the scrumptious snacks. Friday night football is the best! • It’s not a football game without a mascot pumping up the crowd. The mascot runs around and acts as crazy as a loon to get the crowd excited. He does outstanding flips and amazing stunts before the game starts. At halftime he dances with the cheerleaders and makes the crowd chuckle. • The fans in the stands are desperate for their team to win. They are as loud as thunder when the scream and yell for the players. Crazy fans paint their faces and bodies and jump up and down when their team is successful. Hands fly all over the stands when it’s time for the wave. T. Although I enjoy baseball games, football games are the best. L.
