  2. History 2006 - 2008 • First contribution: 02.2006 Bucharest • First public track: November 2007, Peter Kovacs; around OSM 10 Users • 08.2008 130 users, map 10Mb

  3. Present - 2009 • more than 300 known users (not all active), extract up to 25MB • Active mailing list (now on osm.org) with 75 subscribers • Main road network covered around 90% • A lot of cities with good and very good coverage • Brasov (owene), Galati (me ) , Arad (Guenter) • Extract script versioned now generates Garmin (routable), Navit and Gosmore maps Ciprian/Eddy

  4. Datasources • Geo-spatial.org • Thanks Vasile Craciunescu for provided data. • Guenter imported counties borders (2007) • Alex-map/Cristian G imported Suceava/Campulung Moldovenesc (2008/2009) • Indreas/eddy import localityes (POI) [ongoing]

  5. Datasources • GPS track donators. • Francesco (main road network, Timisoara county), thanks Ciprian and Alex_Map for help • Norc.ro (eXtreme Soft Group) donate data for Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Bucharest, Sibiu, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Constanta, Valea Prahovei, Romanian Riviera; more to came • GPSies, alpinet.org • The municipality of Hunedoara granted us the use of the map displayed on their website – thanks to Alexandru Nekula

  6. Issues • The lack of open government data (remember OS?)‏ • Less Users dispersed in the whole country, and this makes hard to organize a mapping party. • Poor secondary and territory road quality (unpaved or impracticable) creates difficulties on tagging.

  7. Future – 2009 and forward • DATA • Contact authorities to obtain more sources of data • More form norc.ro and francesco • Community • Organize a first mapping party • More meetings in different Universities around the country • OSM local chapter in Romania
