Observing Requirement Categories • Location– The general area where the measurements are required, also includes altitude of the measurement (i.e. in situ measurements in a tropical cyclone). • Minimum Coverage Area – (nm2)Required area of coverage. May be a subset of the location (i.e. for counting mammals, one may make some assumptions about the population distribution that allows them to survey a small area and extrapolate to estimate the total number of mammals) • Survey Frequency – (daily, monthly, yearly) • Season of Opportunity – (i.e. fall, hurricane season, any time) • Measurement Requirements • Accuracy/Precision/Resolution • Sampling Rate • Measurement Resolution– Distance Between Measurements (vertical/horizontal), Image Resolution • Data Availability/Delay– Real time data, maximum data delay. • Operational Readiness – Maximum allowable time to get to the measurement location. • Environment – The environment in which the vehicle/payload must perform it’s mission. • Coverage Rate – Coverage Area divided by Elapsed Time (nm2/hr).
Requirements Overview Mission Centric Requirements • Requirement Attributes: • Applicable Instrumentation • Applicable Platforms • Applicable Subsystems • Requirement Owner/Stakeholder
