  2. Aims The aims of this module are to: • Give an overview of the rules of In2Hockey • Introduce the basic principles of umpiring • Explain when an umpire should blow their whistle • Introduces the basic umpiring signals.

  3. What is ? In2Hockey follows on from hockey’s introductory 4-a-side game Quicksticks. It can be played as a 7-a-side game with goalkeepers, or introduced as a 6-a-side game without goalkeepers. It is played on an area the size of half a hockey pitch. The small-sided teams mean that players get more touches on the ball, increased levels of physical activity and more opportunity for skill development

In2Hockey - The Game • How long is an In2Hockey game and what happens after half time? • What is the recommended size of an In2Hockey pitch? • What key markings does an In2Hockey pitch have and what differences are there between 7- a-side and 6-a-side In2Hockey? • What types of goals can be used to play In2Hockey? • What types of balls can be used to play In2Hockey and who are they appropriate for?

In2Hockey - The Players • How many players are on an In2Hockey team? • What is the role of the Captain? • Where and when can players be substituted? • Who is the only player who can be substituted at a penalty corner? • What protective equipment is strongly recommended for outfield players? • Goalkeepers must wear full goalkeeping kit when playing 7-a-side In2Hockey. What are the pieces that make up a full goalkeeping kit?

In2Hockey – The Umpires • What equipment should you have with you to umpire a game of In2Hockey? • How many of the general umpiring principles can you name? • What are the key points for teamwork? • How much of the pitch does one umpire control? • An important part of umpiring is mobility. What can you do to ensure you are in the best position to umpire the game?

Umpiring Guidance and Tips Discuss the following actions – • Whistling - refer to Resource Card 1 • Signaling - refer to Resource Card 4 • Personal Penalties - refer to Resource Card 1 • Free Hits - refer to Resource Card 5 • Scoring a Goal - refer to Rules doc and Resource Card 1 • Ball Out of Play - refer to Resource Card 5 • Penalty Corners - refer to Resource Cards 6 &8 • Penalty Strokes / Shots section - refer to Resource Cards 7 &9

  8. Practical Session • Begin by calling out possible signals that Umpires may need to make at random, and ask the candidates to demonstrate the relevant signal (referto Resource Card 4) • Run through and demonstrate the positioning of players and umpires at penalty corners, penalty strokes / shots (refer to Resource Cards 6, 7, 8 & 9) • Set up some games of In2Hockey. Candidates swap between playing, umpiring and observing the umpires and feeding back to them
