Brief history • 1995 - LAN at MTU(MUST)(JICA project) • 1995 - 5 LANs for EdMIS(EU project) • 1996 - 5 big universities connected to the Internet(NSF project) • 1997 - Dial-Up service for the schools • 1997 - Organized Internet Center(MUC) • 1998 – ADB loan project for establishing academic network is started • 2000/June – “Erdemnet” established
ErdemNet - Purpose • Education->New knowledge source, Training environment, Distance learning, Communication tool … • Science->Professional contacts, Information exchange, Joint research projects … • Management->MIS, EDI, Online applications …
Erdemnet - Users • 16 Universities & Colleges(wireless): MUST, NUM, MUM, MSPU, AUM, PA, MU, ICB, AOM, … • Universities students: 30K(~33%) • 60 Secondary schools in UB(dialup) • Online connected computers: 2500 • 200+ individuals(dialup)

Erdemnet - Problems • High competition(7 ISPs) • High monthly charge for satellite connection • Limited university’s budget for ICT • Low income(GDP per capita 426US$) • Low level of infrastructure development(especialy in rural area)
