Skills are one of the most important factors in determining economic outcomes for people and places
And are fundamental to people’s ability to adapt to the changing world of work
With interpersonal and analytical skills becoming ever more in demand
…And also because (2) the nature of existing jobs is changing Skills importance for assemblers
However, some places are more vulnerable to these changes than others…
…Not just in terms of demand for jobs, but supply of skills too
And take-up of education is overall declining, especially in places that need it the most…
Implications for the future of work • Analytical and interpersonal skills are becoming more important than ever • That’s because demand for jobs is changing, and so is the nature of these jobs • However, not every place is ready for the future of work: low-skilled equilibrium
So what can be done to make people and places ‘robot-ready’? • Create a common NATIONAL FRAMEWORK to define interpersonal and analytical skills • Work collaboratively to improve take-up and quality of education at all levels through SKILLS COMPACTS: • PREPARE young generations to enter the labour market with the skills they need to succeed – early years, curricular and extra-curricular activities • Give the current workforce adequate resources toADAPTto changes in the labour market – adult education and lifelong learning
