Contract Research Dr. Khattab G. Al-Hinai Manager, Research & Innovation Support Office Workshop on Contract Research December 20, 2005
What is Contract Research • Contract research is a binding agreement between two or more parties for performing original investigation to gain knowledge and understanding • It is the use of existing knowledge in experimental development to produce new or substantially improved materials, devices, products and processes
Benefits of Contract Research • The community better acknowledges the value, importance, and benefits of higher education and research • The university develops more competent, contemporary, and befitting academic programs • The academic research meets the prerequisites to client-driven contract research • Develop new technologies or improve existing ones • The university and the faculty members enjoy mutually inclusive financial benefits
The Need for R&D Base • University technology transfer does not happen without a strong research base • Scientists provide "information" on new research findings which flow into the labs of private sector and into commercialization • Many universities established research centers to benefit from research findings and licensees
To serve the nation by conducting client-driven research and development utilizing university resources Contract Research at KFUPM Our Mission
