  1. IndianaView GloVis Portal Larry Biehl, Systems Manager, PTO(biehl@purdue.edu)March 12, 2007Web Page: http://www.indianaview.org/glovis/

  2. Current Participants • Ball State University • Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis • Indiana University • Indiana University-South Bend • Indiana State University • Martin University • Purdue University • Purdue University-Calumet • University of Notre Dame • Vincennes University • Consortium of Universities for Spatial Information Science • Indiana Geographic Information Council • Indiana Geological Survey • Indiana Space Grant Consortium IndianaView Purpose: Promote sharing and use of public domain remotely sensed image data (aerial and satellite platforms) for research, education and applications. • Part of AmericaView Inc. • Funded through USGS http://www.indianaview.org/

  3. AmericaView Purpose • AmericaView is charged with helping the university, secondary-education, and public sectors in each state identify, develop, and distribute the kinds of remote sensing data & applications each state needs most. There are now 27 state-views. Some are full members (funded) and some are associate or affiliate members. http://indianaview.envision.purdue.edu/glovis/index.htm

  4. IndianaView-GloVis • Graphical Interface for viewing & downloading image data • Software provided by USGS • More than 175 Landsat TM & 180 ASTER scenes of Indiana are available • Corona & MODIS scenes to be added IndianaView GloVis link at: http://www.indianaview.org/glovis/

  5. Select specific sensor data. Ortho option is link to ISDP. Political boundaries option is the default. Search limits option is very helpful to limit the number of scenes being displayed. GloVis Menu Options

  6. Window to Download Image Files & Metadata Example Window to Download Image Files & Metadata This window is for Landsat 7 data which has 3 different resolutions (files). Landsat 5 & others have just one file.

  7. Image Data Characteristic b-blue; g-green; r-red; nir-near infrared; mir-mid infrared; tir-thermal infrared

  8. Landsat TM Temporal Coverage *Note: OhioView has many scenes in their archives for path 20 /row 33.

  9. Landsat MSS Temporal Coverage • North American Landscape Characterization (NALC) - Pathfinder Project data for Indiana • 60 meter pixel size

  10. ASTER Temporal Coverage Spatial resolution is 15, 30 or 90 meters depending on the channel; 15 channels.

  11. Declassified spy satellite images. • 70 mm B&W film strips have been scanned. • Around 3 meter spatial resolution. • 11 east-west strips covering south-eastern 2/3 of state (and western portion of Ohio). • Available by mid-April. Corona Image Data (9/25/1965) Anyone recognize the area above?

  12. Sample MODIS Images Aqua: May 21,2006 19:06 GMT Terra: May 22,2006 16:32 GMT

  13. Sample MODIS Products NDVI True Color (1, 4, 3)

  14. MODIS Aerosol ProductCorrected Optical Depth Land Working with Prof. Dev Niyogi (Indiana State Climatologist, Professor of Agronomy and Earth & Atmospheric Sciences) with this product.

  15. 3.7 m L-band System Acquisition System Antenna • Located at the communications pit on the south side of campus. • Acquiring GOES-12 Products • Most recent images available at: http://indianaview.envision.purdue.edu/pto/latest_goes_images.html

  16. 4.5 m Antenna on 30 ft. Tower • Location is on northern portion of grounds of the School of Mechanical Engineering’s Zucrow Laboratory north side of the Purdue University Airport. • Tracking Antenna for MODIS, AVHRR, FY1

  17. Tracking Antenna Receives Following Sensors • Aqua and Terra • MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging • Spectroradiometer) 36 channels; 250, 500, 1000 m • NOAA (6 satellites) • AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) 5 or 6 channels; 1100 m • Feng Yung-1 • MVISR (Multichannel Visible & Infrared Scan Radiometer)10 channels; 1100 m

  18. TeraGrid Portal http://www.purdue.teragrid.org/portal/ Users will have to create an account but the portal is open to all.

  19. Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Level II Data • 159 Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) sites • Real-time streaming, high-resolution data from the national network • Reflectivity, mean radial velocity, and spectrum width • One of the four top-level distributors • Available from TeraGrid at Purdue • THREDDS data server to provide metadata and data access

  20. Data Services: Links to Other Data

  21. Some Interesting Links Relative to Satellites “Live” link for view of Landsat Image Data Passes - http://earthnow.usgs.gov/ Real-time tracking of NOAA satellites - http://science.nasa.gov/Realtime/JTrack/NOAA.html

  22. Real-time Tracking ofNOAA Weather Satellites http://science.nasa.gov/Realtime/JTrack/NOAA.html

  23. PTO Data Portals • SeaSpace TeraScan software allows us to generate products automatically and push to researcher site. • Team with Purdue’s TeraGrid project working on a subscription service to make ndvi, optical depth and radiance modis data for Indiana available for all via web services. • Will develop capability to allow specific data products to be downloaded from the IndianaView GloVis data portal
