GT VET deals with … • a short term implementation of new mandatory skills within VET systems (national and industry related) • investigating systematic ongoing and short termed training pathways by focusing on skills for ecological sustainability • developing a model of an industry driven and run European sustainable training module and matching the demands of industry with the VET system • identifying and anticipating impacts of ecological legislation in everyday work of skilled workers, both for today and future • developing a European training module to obtain identical European learning outcomes in the field of green skills and sustainable awareness within technical VET (focussing on preventing pollution and securing occupational health and safety) • adapting and testing of the module within four steel companies and member states (United Kingdom, Poland, Italy and Germany). • using the example of the steel industry and the VET of industrial mechanics and electronic technicians for adaptation and transfer to other technical VET professions and production industries • producing a blueprint for short term and updating implementation (processes) of new skills in industry and into the VET system ESTEP WG5 “People”24th September 2010

INNOVATION • Sustainable training module, common driven and run by the European Steel Industry with correspondent pathways to the national VET system • Anticipation of actual and future industry needs and a short term industry driven implementation of new skills – continuously updating skills • Making technical professions and productions „greener“ ESTEP WG5 “People”24th September 2010

  10. Summary For global competitiveness of European industries a short term implementation of new mandatory skills within VET systems (national and industry related) is crucial. The project thus aims to investigate systematic ongoing and short termed training pathways by focusing on skills for ecological sustainability, which are a key for the global competitiveness of all European industries. As a model an industry driven and run European sustainable training module will be developed in correspondence with the national VET systems. With a partnership of steel companies and research institutes from each participating member state we aim to identify and anticipate the impacts of ecological legislation in everyday work of skilled workers both for today and future. Independent of the different VET system of the member states, VET practices and learning outcomes need to be evaluated with respect to ecological skills, expertise and awareness. Based on these insights a European training module will be developed to obtain identical European learning outcomes in the field of green skills and sustainable awareness within technical VET (focusing on preventing pollution and securing occupational health and safety). This module will be adapted and tested within four steel companies and member states (United Kingdom, Poland, Italy and Germany). Adjustment to each national system of VET will be made; learning outcomes will be evaluated with transferable credit points (ECVET). Using the example of the steel industry and the VET of industrial mechanics and electronic technicians the modules and its process of implementation could be checked for adaptation and transfer to other technical VET professions and production industries. Therefore, these modules and its tested implementation process could become a blueprint for short term and updating implementation (processes) of new skills in industry and into the VET system.
