  1. The movers and shakers of the world(1 Corinthians 1:18-31; Matthew 5:1-12)

  2. Where is God’s kingdom? • “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” • To Christians, God’s kingdom is not only a final destination of our life but it should be the goal and mission of our faith while living here in the world. • All of human beings hope to improve our circumstances and want to live in a better world. • Who can stand before us, lead us, and work for the peace and progress of the world?

  3. Who are in charge of God’s kingdom? • The political leaders of our nations? • God’s kingdom belongs to the poor, the sorrowful, the meek, the hungry and thirsty, the merciful, the pure, the peacemakers, and the persecuted. • Those unprivileged are the real movers and shakers of the world. • The cross is their power and wisdom to shake the world and build God’s kingdom on earth.

  4. The symbol of the cross • The cross has a dualistic symbol – the symbol of death and resurrection; the symbol of oppression and liberation. • In human eyes, the cross is all about human sinfulness, foolishness, and violence, but in Christ, it is the symbol of God’s grace and love towards the world. • Jesus’ cross is the shift of paradigm about human civilization: from the Old Testament to the New Testament; from the era of the Law to the era of the Gospel; from children of wrath to children of God (Eph. 2:3). • Under the cross, all the races have finally overcome the divisions and conflicts and become one global family of God. • “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God” (v. 18).

  5. Disciples of God’s kingdom • God’s kingdom is a present reality that we can experience where we live. • God’s kingdom is all about righteousness, peace, joy, love, and reconciliation. • It is built on the cross. • The cross is all about sacrifice, service, forgiveness, love for others. • As we take up Jesus’ cross, we do indeed shake and move the world and make “Thy kingdom, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
