What is a Home Page? • The home page is the entry point for the user to a Web site. • The purpose of a home page is to orient the users to the Web site • It emphasizes the site’s purpose and the value of its offerings. • It sets the standards and expectations for the rest of the site. • It establishes the brand. Current Design • Overwhelming and confusing -- too much information, too many options • No clear indication of what Xilinx does • Page must be read – poor home page practice • Corporate branding of Xilinx is lost • Messaging in banners is less effective • No area for persistent advertising Xilinx Confidential
Proposed Design • Top banner cycles between 3 banners for improved messaging • Improved delivery of banner messages due to cleaner design • Uncluttered design is easy to view and understand • Logical grouping of links improves scanning • Clearer understanding of what Xilinx offers • 3 sub-banners (lower) allow persistent promotions Xilinx Confidential
Home Page Efficiency • Coding (comparing new to current) • Less home page specific JavaScript to manage • Navigation • Reduction in total number of links • Improved link groupings • Strong “scent” design for prospects and current customers • Maintenance • Content maintenance limited to banners • Improved support for translation, particularly phonetic spelling for Japan. Future Improvements • Better connection to corporate visual id • Revisit header/footer to better align new home page • Continual improvement of home page through consistent monitoring • Keep site liquid to evolve the home page in step with business and industry trends • Localized content support for global sites • Individualized by region, allowing modification per local needs • Better spacing for improved character legibility and phonetic spelling • Less graphics and more text options • Improvements to gallery pages • Product comparisons • Product positioning Xilinx Confidential
