  2. Description • Heard County Middle School • Franklin, Ga • 6th Grade Science • 20 to 25 students • Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays • Created over 5 school days • High achievers and low achievers

  3. Theories • Social Cognitive theory • Behavioral learning theory

  4. Social Cognitive theory • Describes learning in terms of the interrelationship between behavior, environmental factors, and personal factors. Factors that distract students: • Laziness • Friends • Families level of income

  5. Behavioral learning theory Learning according to the behaviorist theory is an observable change in behavior. • Parent teacher conference at the end of January. • Went over the students actions with the parent • By the end of march, the student has shown a change in behavior and grades. Student: John Doe Problems: Laziness, participation, test scores, talking

  6. Pedagogical Implications • Students should want to do their best on everything in school. • Outside factors should not have an affect on student learning. • Students should feel comfortable and free to express themselves appropriately • Argument: Students can have a change in behavior over a short period of time. • Evidence: Motivation, Practice, Breaking Habits, and rewards (reinforcement)
