I-205/Sunnyside NB Onramp Miroslava Stolyar Almir Zelkanović David Demchak Jake Wright Slavik Franchuk CE 454 Urban Transportation December 3, 2008
OVERVIEW • Preliminary site investigation • Analysis and evaluation of existing conditions • Data collection • Proposed modifications • VISSIM design • Evaluation of constructed network
Site of Interest Right lane turn from Sunnyside Rd I-205 NB Onramp Stevens Rd
CLAIMED CONDITIONS: • The westbound right turn lane from Sunnyside Rd onto I-205 NB experiences high traffic demandcontrolled with a yield sign • Lane utilization through intersections upstream including Sunnyside/Stevens and Sunnyside/101st is in favor of the northernmost lane which further adds to the volume of traffic • Long queues backed through the Stevens and 101st intersections cause drivers to make ill advised lane change choices
COUNTY MODELED CONDITIONS Syncro data obtained from Clackamas County Transportation Department
PROPOSED MODIFICATIONS Remove the yield sign and extend the right turn lane from Sunnyside Road onto the I-205 NB Onramp. Added lane
CONCLUSION • No mitigation deemed necessary • Model errors were reduced by calibration • Quick fix involves modifying signal phases/timings • The modification used (extension of turning lane) is a considerable expense but will greatly reduce the generated queues
