The Front Office Staff • Kevin West, attendance secretary, parents’ main contact in the front office • Sick • Tardy • Early dismissal • Forgotten items • Message to your student
Absences • Call the school at 837-6800 and press 1. Leave the child’s first and last name, grade and the reason for the absence. • Send a note in with your child upon their return.
Pre-arranged Absences • Get form from office or download one from website • Form must be signed by ALL teachers • Submit at least a week in advance • Teachers are not contracted to provide work for absences in advance
Early Dismissal • Send a note in with your student that morning. • Mr. West will give them a slip to show their teacher at the assigned time that excuses them from class. • You must come in and sign your student out.
Tardies • Every child needs to check in with the front office if they arrive late in the morning. • If you are bringing your child late to school, call ahead or if you are a few minutes late, come in with your child.
Forgotten Items • School encourages natural consequences for forgotten lunches, homework etc. • Items will be delivered by Kevin West • Kids can use their cell phones after school outside the front doors so you can leave them a message about a change of plans for pick up.

Counselors What We Do...Individual Student Planning • Help students with their academic, career and personal/social development • Registration and Scheduling • 504 Caseload Managers • Guidance Team Meeting Member/Facilitator Responsive Services • Crisis Counseling • Small Group Intervention and Counseling • Student Mediations • Referrals to School and/or Community Resources (VOICE, Angel Program...)
Scoop from the Counselors • Check your students planner every night. • Make sure they have written down all assignments. • If not, check teacher’s website or call homework hotline. • If no homework, have them write down what they learned in class. • This helps them learn/remember what they have to do and plan ahead. • Student can check completed homework and cross out homework turned in to teacher.
More counseling scoop • Each weekend monitor child organizing binder and backpack. • They need to learn to put all papers in correct place so they can find them. • Take out unneeded papers but keep all assignments for the year!
And more scoop from the Counselors • Encourage kids to be pro-active in communicating with their teachers on their own. • Ask questions during class, after class or through email. • Encourage kids to speak up about harassment. If they don’t feel safe confronting the bully or comforting the victim, report to an adult.
And finally… • Create and clearly communicate about boundaries that are non-negotiable around personal safety, education and respect for self and others. • Give your child several options/choices within each to support their growing need for autonomy. • Need to learn to make good decisions through practice. • Keep your sense of humor!
School Nurse • If a student has asthma and self carries an inhaler the parents need to fill out two forms and have the doc sign and return to me. • 2) If a student has a severe allergy and uses an epi-pen we need and allergy plan on file and an epi-pen in the office. • Moms of girls: send a “kit” to school with girls in case they need it. Always someone in nurses’s office.

Scoop from the VP • Infractions • Part of progressive discipline • Receive infractions for anything from running in the hall to talking on cell phone. • Consequences build on one another • 1-5 = lunch duty • 6-10 = lunch detention • 16-20 = two after school detentions • 21+ = meeting with administrator
More scoop from the VP • Bullying and Harassment • Zero tolerance for bullying and harassment • How does he handle it? It depends. • School encourages students and families to report any incident. All will be investigated. • Can parents learn the consequences for other students? • No, this is a privacy issue.
And even more scoop from the VP • Is attendance taken at clubs and sporting practices? • Yes and it is expected by coaches that kids attend. • Are parents informed if kids are not at practice/clubs but were at school. • No! Be sure you are talking to your kids.

Principal’s Reminders… • No kids on campus before 7:20 • No supervision. Kids are kept off campus and standing in the rain.
More Reminders… • Please pick kids up promptly after school and events • Kids not in clubs or sports must be off campus immediately. • Please be on time to pick up from events. Staff are not paid to stay late. • Community Center has an after school program with a minimal charge if you need it.
More reminders from the Principal • Use the Sea-Tac model in the parking lot. • Inside drive through lane • Drive in circle until you see an opening. • Pull in.
Finally…. • Shorts, skirts and dresses must be below mid-thigh not to the fingertips of the student.
Student Recognition • Most Valuable Panther (MVP) • One positive trait each month. Nominated by a teacher or administrator • Certificate, name in Panther Press and on wall plus a sundae one day at lunch.
Student Recognition • Pawsitive Action Award • Kid “caught in the act” of: kindness, excellent effort, exceptional work, positive attitude, helping others. • “anti-infraction”: kids called down to the office for certificate and a paws pin.
