Objectives and Vocab • Students will be able to identify the lost cities of the Indus and describe the Harappan civilizations. • Citadel: a strong fortress
Lost Cities of the Indus • Harappa; Named for a near-by town, because we didn’t know the people that lived in the ruins. • 400 miles south is Mohenjo-Daro the city ruins found and it means “Mound of the Dead.”
Mohenjo-Daro • Historians think about 40,000 people may have lived in the city.
Harappan Culture • From the first lesson we learned they grew new crops like mustard and black pepper. • Historians have gathered most of their knowledge from the ruins. We haven’t broken the code to their writing yet.
Planned Cities • Their cities were planned and bricks were standard-sized that made the houses look neat and organized. • Houses had toilets • Assignment: Questions Page 123 #1-5
