Presentation layout • Use of media at Lernhausim Campus • E-learning-days 2011 and 2012 • Lessons learnt Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Useofmediasince 2011 year 5 and 6 Notebook-trolley with 30 per year group (3 students:1 notebook) (financed by school maintaining body) IQonas a newlearningplatform Communication in IQon integrated through Windows Live Year 7 and 8 3 computer rooms everyone School USB stick for school work at home 3 netbook-classes (financed by school maintaining body) Year 9 1 notebook class in year 10 (financed by parents) Year 10 Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
E-learning – participants • 4 classes • 2 “Hauptschule” year 9 (netbook-trolley) • 1 “Realschule” year 9 (netbook-trolley) • 1 “Realschule” year 10 (notebook-class) • In total 60 students and 6 teachers • Age of students: 14 – 17 years old Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
E-learning – procedure • Time frame 8am to 8pm • From 8 am to 4pm teachers could be contacted via mail, chat, phone, Iqon, skype, facebook… • From 4pm there was no support given from the school anymore • With technical problems students were able to come to school and if necessary work there • At the end of the day an evaluation took place Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck

Lesson 1-Technology • Technical environment has to be reliable • Students and teachers criticise technical problems in school during the e-learning days. • 1:1-device is desirable, personal notebook • Solution with learning platform and USB stick is good • 66% of the students asked like the stick and are happy with the program Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Lesson 2 – E-learning as a method • E-learning as an enrichment in school learning • Students mostly like this type of learning • Teachers would use this method again too Quelle: Gerd Altmann_pixelio.de Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Evaluation fromstudents Something new chat Goodthingswere… working independently without pressure Noclassroomnoise Working athome Working with a computer and the internet learningatyourownpace Quelle: Gerd Altmann_Shapes_ AllSilhouettes.com_pixelio.de Working in your own time A lotofhelp Developing something together Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Evaluation fromstudents I didn‘t like… • Not being together with classmates • Too much working individually and not in a group (66% of students predominantly worked by themselves) • Direct help from the teacher is more convenient • No concentration at home, too many distractions • Files could not be opened • IQon broke down temporarily • Too many chat conferences • Internet didn’t work • Amount of tasks was too much • Tasks were too difficult • Working a long time on the computer Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Evaluation fromteachers • High motivation from students • Students helped each other immensely • Increase in school performances • Skype group-chat was good fun • Timeliness of students in terms of signing in, sticking to hand in time. • Students found it easier to contact teachers than usually (felt more anonymous) • Different form of communication than normally • Technical problems, especially with IQon • IQon is not a good platform • Not all students have access to the internet or a computer • Facebook was distracting students from their work • 3 school subjects were too much • Very time consuming for teachers (and students) • Bad results- copy and paste Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Lesson3-learning platform • High acceptance • Secure handling • Implicit use of platform Trouble spot Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Ourlearningplatform Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Ourlearningplatform What is annoying? • Confusing and unclear • awkward setup • slow • Mail via Windows Live Whatismissing? • Chat function • Bulletin board (forum) The communication area should be a fundamental part Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Lesson 4-Planning • Media development planning is essential • Goals should be clear • Shared goals • Clear responsibilities Quelle: Rainer Sturm_pixelio.de Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Lesson5-Conclusion • We took on too much at the same time • We have to reroute "Irrwege müssen begangen werden, um sich als Irrwege zu erweisen."Paul Watzlawick Quelle: Gerd Altmann_pixelio.de Lernhaus im Campus, Osterholz-Scharmbeck
