”Rippling” is a powerful tool in TRIFLEX Windows • Using “Ripple” the user can easy modify the input data for the entire model, for a sequence of components from the input spreadsheet or for a selection of components • Rippling tools are present in most component data entry dialogs • You can ripple virtually everything: - pressure - restraints - temperature - soil characteristics - material - code compliance settings - pipe size - wind loads - insulation - uniform loads
On each dialog which supports rippling you will find three options: 1.Ripple Stops if Different – The rippling action will happen in the ascending order from the input spreadsheet and will stop when it reaches a component which has different data. 2. Ripple Selected Component – The rippling action will apply for all selected components. There are no restrictions on the sequence of the selected components. 3. Ripple to the Component # - The rippling will happen between the Current Component and the component listed at the item number input into the dialog. The rippling will be forward or backward in the sequence of the input spreadsheet.
Rippling stop if different We want to change pipe size from 3” nominal diameter to 8” nominal diameter. The direction of coding is from the anchor to the tee.
1.Open the anchor dialog for the beginning of the 3” pipe size branch 2. Change the nominal diameter from 3” to 8” 4. Click with the mouse on “Ripple Size” button 3. Select the radio button “Ripple Stops if Different”
The rippling process will stop at component 23 which is the first one in the list having a different diameter for the pipe. By clicking “Yes” you agree with the rippling operation and you want to continue with the ripple. Clicking “No” cancels the rippling operation.
The rippling changes can be verified in input graphics and the input spreadsheet.
Ripple Selected Component: • No conditions apply regarding the sequence of selections • The selections of the components can be done in the Input Spreadsheet or in Input Graphics • The selected components will me marked in the Input Spreadsheet with a black background • The selected components will be highlighted in Input Graphics • The rippling for selected components will happen unconditionally for all selected components
The operating temperature for this system is 900F. We will change the temperature from 900F to 800F for the branches marked with
The selected components appear highlighted in input graphics and with black background in input spreadsheet
1.Double click with the mouse on one of the selected components. 2.Change the operating temperature from 900F to 800F. 4. Click with the mouse on “Operating Temperature” button from the “Ripple Selection” group 3.Select the radio button “Ripple Selected Components”
The effect of the rippling for operating temperature can be verified in the input spreadsheet and in input graphics
Ripple to a component: How can we modify the temperature and pressure for the components between #10 and #30 from the Input Spreadsheet list?
Initial temperatures and pressures for component #10 from the Input Spreadsheet list Modified temperatures and pressures for component #10 from the Input Spreadsheet list
1. Select the radio button “Ripple to the Component #” and type “30” in the input field 3. Select “Yes” if you want to continue or “No” if you want to cancel the rippling 2. To ripple, click with the mouse on “Op Temp and Pressure” button
The “ripple” operation was successful. All the temperatures and pressures values from the components between #10 and #30 are modified.
