The state government wants to fine parents $70 if there children miss out on school more than five days a year if they didn’t have any doctors certificates or even a good enough reason. Susie O'Brien states that the government/state officials should be focused on the children that regularly miss out on many days of school with no reason, parents should only decide wether the child should turn up to school or not. In very rare occasions like family reasons, important medical appointments, family holidays, and a special visit from the elderly who might not be around much longer.
FOR AGAINST • The plain truth is that sometimes kids benefit more from not going to school. • Parents should have the right to decide if there children should have a day off school not the state government • Five days a year is just slightly more than 1 day off a term which seems perfectly acceptable amount of time for children to miss school. • The state government wants to fine parents $70 if there children miss school for more than five days a year without a good enough reason. • There is no doubt, however that some children are missing far too much school, kids seem to be away from school and when they do turn up to school they are late aren't well prepared and aren't well dressed. • Parents whose children regularly miss large periods of school for no absolute no good reason should be identified and investigated.
