Was first published in 1827 • In 1831 he moved to Baltimore to live with his aunt, Maria Clemm • In 1836 Poe married Maria’s daughter (Virginia, age 13) and moved to NYC • In 1847 Virginia died of Tuberculosis • Poe was so upset about her death that he began to drink and act strangely.
In 1848 Poe became engaged to Elmira Royster, his childhood sweetheart. • In 1849 he was found unconscious in the streets of Baltimore. • Poe died October 7, 1849. No one knows if it was alcoholism or murder. • He was buried in an unmarked grave in the Old Westminster Burying Ground of Baltimore, but moved in 1875 to his memorial.
