  1. Group 1- Energy Usage on a state and personal level. How did we get our data? How long could you last on 1 kilowatt of electricity? 1. How much energy do you use or cause to be used daily? Individual Appliance Inspection How many kilowatts do you use in a day? 2. How much energy does the state of Alabama use or cause to be used annually? How much coal does it take to make a kilowatt? 3. Convert this to an equivalent energy source. Contacts- Advisors and the University of Alabama’s energy manager What is the state’s usage of energy? How much of that state usage is of renewable fuel? Researching through the Department of Energy’s website.

  2. Individual Usage • The average EMAP student, without using a car, uses approximately 33 KWHs of energy a day, or about 12,000 per year. This is significantly lower than the state average of 62 KWH per year for residential uses, but college students living on campus do not drive nearly as much as the average Alabamian. Also, the high-density housing lowers usage per person.

  3. State usage • The state of Alabama uses 621 billion KWHs of energy per year (1.73 billion per day). This is equivalent to 17 billion gallons of gasoline or 131 million tons of coal.
