Kinematics Kinematics are a branch of mechanics concerned with the motion of objects without reference to the forces that cause the motion.
Dynamics The branch of mechanics concerned with the motion of bodies under the action of forces.
Speed In kinematics, the instantaneous speed of an object is the magnitude of its instantaneous velocity (the rate of change of its position); it is thus the scalar equivalent of velocity.
Acceleration Acceleration is the change in velocity over time. Velocity is a vector, it can change in two ways, a change in magnitude and/or a change in direction.
Galileo’s Ramp A large wooden ball is rolled down a ramp, and there are markings for each intervals to measure acceleration.
Newton’s 1st Law Newton’s first law of motion, states that a body remains at rest or in motion with a constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force.
Newton’s 2nd Law • Newton’s second law of motion states that the rate of change of momentum is proportional to the imposed force and goes in the direction of the force.
Newton’s 3rd Law Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that action and reaction are equal and opposite.
