To what extent should internationalism be pursed? Alex Klepper December 3rd, 2010 Block 2 Social 20-1
The United Nations • The United Nations is an example of internationalism. According to the UN Charter, the UN exists “to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations and promote social progress, better living standards and human rights.” But in some examples in history the UN did nothing to help the nation. Like for example, the Rwanda genocide, the UN didn’t take the issue seriously and left the country to deal with this one their own.
Foreign aid • This picture shows Us foreign aid. • Many governments work together to improve quality of life in developing countries, also to solve problems like poverty, human rights, famine, and aids. Foreign aid promotes internationalism. When multiple nations decide to give foreign aid the cooperation between thecountries is going to promote internationalism, but only if its done in the proper way it would increase internationalism.
Global Warming • Global Warming is slowly becoming a serious issue in today's world. Governments all over the world need to all get together and make serious action about this issue. They had to have a common goal about how to solve this problem before its out of hand. Even though the worlds nations are already battling war, hungry and poverty if we make a change to make a cleaner healthier planet then maybe their would be less droughts, and floods. Its up to the nations government to pursue global warming as a world-wide issue. Nations need to extent their interests beyond their borders.
In this picture we see as head figures of governments. Then you see a man with a gun and a boy serving to them. This shows the different classes between government and citizens. Governments need to come together regularly and discuss important issues like poverty, war, and trade. Internationalism is a good thing.
World Council Of Indigenous Peoples • The world council of indigenous people helps promotes their interests across the world. It formed in 1980 to ensure fair and just treatment and ot give a untied voice for over 370 million Indigenous people worldwide. This helps promote internationalism for all indigenous people across the world.
Peace • Peace is one of the most discussed topics on the planet. Through internationalism, peace could be possible. If all countries across the globe helped one each other equally and each had a similar goal, peace could happen. If no one practiced internationalism the world would be a very different place, there be no love or support for other countries and nations would slowly crumble. If internationalism is pursued in a peaceful matter, then its very positive and useful.
Technology • In today's world, technology is a huge part of our daily lives. Governments don’t need to travel and meet with other government officials now because they can just do a video chat. Technology is bringing the world closer together. In the case of internationalism, technology is making it easier for countries to trade or communicate with each other.
Currency • Currency helps link countries together, it helps have a stronger relationship with over nations. Like for example Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain all use the Euro currency. This promotes internationalism between those countries.
Trade • Without internationalism trade would not be possible. Trade is one of the most important things for a country, they need trade to gain money and to become a stronger nation. Internationalism helps countries trade.
War • There is a huge connection between war and internationalism. It’s about how far your country will go to help another country. Countries need to be realistic when he comes to war problems, they need to take into account the needs of their citizens before they go off and help another country at war. Internationalism in war situations should only be pursued if it’s a positive choice for both the nations involved. An example would be Canada helping The United States.
