Chapter 6 Math Review. 5 th Grade May 2010. Mean. Set of numbers (a, b , ….., z ) Find the sum of all the numbers in the set. a+b +….+ z = Total 3. Count up the number of items in the set. 4. Divide the total in step 2 by the number counted in step 3. ( a+b +…+ z )/(# in set).

  2. Mean • Set of numbers (a, b, ….., z) • Find the sum of all the numbers in the set. a+b+….+z= Total 3. Count up the number of items in the set. 4. Divide the total in step 2 by the number counted in step 3. (a+b+…+z)/(# in set)

  3. Median • Order the set in numerical order. • Find the number that is in the middle of the list. This is the median. • If two numbers split the center, the average of these numbers is the median.

  4. Mode • Put the items in the list in numerical order • Find the number that occurs the most • A set of number can have 0, 1, or multiple modes
