  3. Documents we need (clear copies) • CF3299 – Declaration for Free Entry • Supplemental Declaration • Passport • VISA (Non citizen) – Must have number • Packing list • Bill of lading / Airway bill • Arrival Notice

  4. CBP Examinations • MANIFEST HOLDS • Agriculture Holds • VACIS Exams • CET Exams • Intensive Exams • Any other types of holds continued on next page

  5. CBP Examinations (cont.) • Arranging Customs Exams – 1st port • Steamship line handles movement • Some lines allow us to guarantee exam charges • GTI sends exam payment (overnight) continued on next page

  9. Demurrage and Per Diem • Demurrage = storage at arriving terminal • Per Diem = holding onto container too long • Guarantee of storage charges • Avoiding these charges altogether is best for everyone!

  14. Inherited Goods You DO NOT have to pay duty if… Lived in household with the goods, for 1 year or more, at some point Antiques (over 100 years old) and you have documents to prove this. Inherited Goods You DO have to pay duty if… Did not live in the household with the goods for more than 1 year.   16. Unique Situations/Clearances (cont.) • Diplomatic Shipments • Should be listed (Diplomat) on paperwork so Customs is informed • Inform the carrier of Diplomatic Status. Carrier must also contact CBP to inform them of diplomatic status • The US Government cannot reimburse any mission for charges incurred as a result of inspection by CBP. • Contact info if cargo is inspected. Customs liaison staff (212) 826-4500 or 826-4510. • CBP Form DS-1504 • Stamped by foreign consulate before documents are received in the US • Stamped by the US Department of Foreign Missions • Stamped by US Customs & Border Protection • Customs can decide to examine the shipment at anytime, regardless of diplomatic status
