Expectations • The ELA portion of the test is high stakes. • Students will need to read and write fluently as well as independently. • Only general direction prompts are read aloud.
ELA Sections of the test • Writing portion • Reading & Responding • Proofreading • Information Resources
Writing Portion • Assessed early in Phase I. • New this year- Students will be given a passage and must use proof from the passage in their essay. • Essay should be 3-4 paragraphs. • Spelling counts as only 1 point.
Reading and Responding • Cold Read Comprehension Assessments • No Reading and Responding tests can be read aloud to ANY student. • Multiple choice and short answer.
Proofreading • Students proofread a passage and identify the mistakes. • Easy place to make points BUT also easy place to get confused. • Strategy to stress- to take their time and read all answers choices before they make a choice. • All multiple choice
Information resources • Challenging part of the test due to the format. • Students have multiple pages they must use to search for the information to answer the questions. • Student practice includes research projects and practice assignments.
Additional Information • LADOE site • MMS 4th grade students will be taking a practice test prior to Phase I. • We are practicing on Louisiana Pass and on Study Island in computer lab. Both sites are available at home.
