Learning and Teaching Instituteincorporating Audio and Video to Aid Reflection, Assessment and Feedback in Workplace Learning Irene Anderson and Alan Hilliard i.1.anderson@herts.ac.uka.p.hilliard@herts.ac.uk
Aim • Explore new ways of engaging with learners • Make use of technologies available in order to enrich reflection, assessment and feedback activity • Consider and discuss the use of technology in your own context • Experience the use of digital voice recorders and “Flip” video cameras
Activity 1- to explore the issues • 4 volunteers • How might audio and video be used in the workplace to help learners reflect on their skills and learning development needs? • Other participants to take on the role of observers and commentators
Activity 2 • 2 volunteers • One to be the “learner” and one to be the “teacher/coach/mentor”. • Other participants to take on the role of observers and commentators
Activity 2 • The “learner” has to make a paper hat (or paper aeroplane, etc) and give a running commentary whilst making it • ( 3 mins) • The “teacher” gives feedback to the “learner” on the procedure and final creation. • (2 mins)
How could you apply this technology?
Conclusions • Using technologies • Mixed methods providing variety in learning and teaching (Blended Learning) • Reusable resources • Professional portfolios
