  1. Preterite Tense of –er/-ir Verbs

  2. The preterite tense (or simple past) of –er and -ir verbs uses a different set of endings than the present tense of –er/-ir verbs. Study the preterite endings below: yo -í nosotros -imos tú -iste Ud./él/ella -ió Uds./ellos/ellas -ieron

  3. Let’s do some examples. What is the correct preterite form of the given verb in these sentences? The answer will appear after 10 seconds. Ellos en la clase. (aprender) aprendieron Tú muy bien. (entender) entendiste Yo la tarea. (escribir) escribí Nosotros en Los Angeles. (vivir) vivimos

  4. Let’s do some practice. Complete these sentences with the correct preterite form of the given verb. Tú _______ a Roberto. (escribir) That’s right… it’s escribiste! Eva _________ mucho en la clase de historia. (aprender) That’s right… it’s aprendió!

  5. Here’s some more practice. Nosotros no _______ las papas fritas. (comer) That’s right… it’s comimos! Uds. ________ muy mal. (escribir) That’s right… it’s escribieron!

  6. Nosotros _______la cena. (comer) That’s right… it’s comimos! Teresa y Juan _______ la luz. (encender) That’s right… it’s encendieron!
