There were 954 investigations of child abuse and neglect in Cumberland County last year.
That would be every child at one of our local elementary schools.
Each year, more than 3 million children across the country are reported as being abused or neglected.
Almost 81% of abusers are parents and another 6% are relatives of the victims.
The number of reports of child abuse made in the United States every minute: 6
The number of cases of child abuse that will be reported by the end of this slide show: 54
“Look at this mess! You are so worthless!” “Why can’t you just behave? No child of mine acts like that.”
“You are so weird. I can see why nobody likes you.” “You are always crying! Are you ever happy?”
“You are so stupid. Why can’t you make good grades like your sister?” “You are such an embarrassment! Why can’t you dress like normal kids?”
Here’s the good news… Child abuse and neglect is 100% preventable.
The National Blue Ribbon Campaign began as a result of one grandmother’s struggle to overcome the brutal death of her grandchild at the hands of his parents.
