NMSU Astronomy • 10 Tenure track faculty: 2 newest members work in solar physics (+2 planetary + 6 other) • James McAteer • Jason Jackiewicz • 30 graduate students: 3 of 5 incoming students expressed interest in solar • Member of Astrophysical Research Corporation (ARC) that runs 3.5m and SDSS at APO; NMSU also operates a 1m at APO • “Operates” APO for ARC

  3. NMSU interest • Scientific: support development of solar program at NMSU • Educational: student training and site visit • Instrumentation: cross-disciplinary opportunities • Outreach • University administration has expressed interest

  4. APO/ARC interests • Water • Aluminization • Visitor center • Housing

  5. Programmatics • NMSU operates APO, might be interested in extending to Sunspot operations; possible economies of scale with shared personnel/management • NMSU probably not in position to supply operations funding • NMSU probably not interested in site ownership
