Reading a whole novel in class is time consuming and may not be possible. Here are some suggestions for streamlining the process: Pull specific key excerpts from the novel. Students read novel outside of class and use sticky notes or a note-taking strategy to cite key ideas. Use independent reading books to make connections. (Will require deep planning.) From your packet, read the excerpts provided from The Hunger Games.

The Blog Suggestions for writing: Students pre-write blog response on a Word Document and save before posting. Respond to student posts and probe for deeper answers. Require students to question and respond to peer postings. Suggestions for technology: Provide lessons for online etiquette. Discuss online safety, only use first name, don’t identify school or location, etc. Generate a list of student user names and passwords for the blog, they will forget.
