CLEAN SNOWMOBILE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE 2011-2012 Team members: Lucas Farrar, Andrew Gwarjanski, Kalee Gurschick, Michael Galli and David Raymond Engine Rebuild 2007 Yamaha Phazer Due to a damaged piston occurring in the 2011 competition, the first milestone for this year’s team was a complete rebuild of the 499cc twin cylinder 4 stroke Yamaha engine (right). MegaLog viewer is a useful tool capable of plotting engine parameters such as RPM, manifold abs. pressure, pulse width, duty cycle and spark advance over time while the engine is running. These curves (above) help in trouble shooting and aid in achieving optimum engine performance. A custom exhaust (right) complete with a pre-cat and catalytic converter from Random Technology Inc., along with a Walker Quiet Flow muffler, was added to reduce sound and emissions.
CLEAN SNOWMOBILE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE 2011-2012 Fuel Injector Flow Bench Custom Cowlings A crucial control input to any engine is the fuel injector pulse width. In order to learn more about the fuel injection system of the Phazer and tune the engine properly, a fuel injector flow bench was fabricated (above). The schematic to the right displays the additions to the existing dynamometer cart. The 2011 Team fabricated custom cowlings that were lined with heat resistant and sound deadening material. This year, any weak or damaged spots were repaired and the pieces were given a fresh coat of paint (above). Special thanks to Mick Peterson, Diane Maguire, Karen Fogarty, Chuck Maguire and Jakob Low.
