Third Cohesion Report • The Urban Audit has helped to illustrate the importance of urban issues and strengthen its position within European Cohesion policy • The Urban Audit was quoted in the Main Report referring to disparities within and between cities on issues such as poverty, crime, unemployment and pollution.

It covers (1) disparities within cities, (2) between large and medium-sized cities and (3) between cities in the core (pentagon) and outside the core.

  14. Europe Empowers Cities • 27-28 May, Heerlen-Maastricht • Goal: exchange experience of urban policy within European programmes • Public: City administrators involved in European Programmes • Commission will present a few elements of the Urban Audit as a teaser to elicit interest.

City Summit • Mid-October, Leiden (the Netherlands) • Goal: Official publication of the Urban Audit, discuss Urbact and the urban content of future European Cohesion Policy • Public: Mayors from Cities participating in the Urban Audit or Obj. 1, 2 or URBAN Co-organised by the Netherlands and DG REGIO • Official opening of UA Website and Paper Volume and Presentation of first analysis of results for EU27

  24. Procedure • MS sends grant request to Eurostat • Commission sends two grant agreements to MS • MS signs and dates both agreements, initials each page and returns both copies to the Commission • Commission signs and dates both copies and returns one to the MS

  28. Digital Boundaries • Goal: a complete set of all the boundaries • Status: City and LUZ boundaries are complete • Neighbourhood boundaries are incomplete. Compiling and harmonising these boundaries is underway and should be finished by the end of the year

  36. What & When? • Telephone survey with 23 questions • EOS-Gallup conducted the survey (from the Eurobarometer fame) • 300 respondents per city • 31 Cities in EU 15 January 2004 • Cost: € 308 000 • 18 cities in CC12 in Autumn 2004 • Cost: Approx. € 180 000
