DID YOU KNOW….. • Ghettos were living areas for the Jewish before being sent to a concentration camp or death camp. • The Nazis had over 20,000 death camps and concentration camps spread throughout Europe. • There is a difference between a concentration camp and death camp. • Hitler’s plan for the genocide of Jews was known as his “Final Solution”.

Final solution • Starts in October 1939 • Deportations, emigration, or mass shootings of Jewish People • Categorized as “subhuman” • No longer treated by the normal rules • Heinrich Himmler and the SS in charge
Death Camps in poland • By 1941 camps are dedicated to the mass killing of Jews • Accessible by direct rail lines • Auschwitz, Treblinka, Sobibor, Chelmno, Belzec, and Maidanek
Forced into ghettos • Some 400 created • Labor camps • Used starvation and deprivation to weaken the captives • Concentration were later built • Worked to death as slave labor • Used in medical experiments
