  2. Different technology was introduced based on using the input devices: 1.speech input 2.wearable computing 3.smart fabric 4.sixth sense 5.skinput (combination of on body sensing and projection)

  3. INTRODUCTION: • This technology was introduced by CHRIS HARRISON a graduate student from Carnegie Mellon University. • Skinput is an “ input technology” mainly used to control mobile devices. • Skinput is named because it uses the human skin as a input device or tracking surface.

  4. It was introduced based on a simple concept of reading the acoustic signals resulting from a finger tap on a human body. • Skinput is basically a system of using projector to display a screen onto your forearm or hand.

  5. A wearable, bio-acoustic sensing array built into an armband. Sensing elements detect vibrations transmitted through the body. The two sensor packages shown above each contain five, specially weighted, cantilevered piezo films, responsive to a particular frequency range.

  7. MECHANISM • Arm band  detects the acoustic signals and convert them to electronic signals which easily enable the users to perform simple tasks as browsing through a mobile phone menu, making calls, controlling portable music players, etc..

Skinput sensors track the vibrations created by tapping on forearm using an armband and display it. • Skinput technology works by “listening” for the sounds made by finger tapping on a particular part of the human body • EX: Tapping close to your wrist would result in a slightly different “sound” than tapping closer to the elbow.

  10. Tapping on the different part of your arm it creats longitudinal waves that cause internal skeletal structures to vibrate which inturn passes from bone to skin.

  12. APPLICATIONS: • The Skinput system could display an image of a digital keyboard on a person's forearm. • Using Skinput, someone could send text messages by tapping his or her arm in certain places  • while Walking and jogging, we can listen to music.

  13. Using Skinput, a person could tap their thumb and middle finger together to answer a call; touch their forearm to go to the next track on a music player; or flick the center of their palm to select a menu item.

  14. CONCLUSION : In this paper, we have presented our approach to appropriating the human body as an input surface. We have described a novel, wearable bio-acoustic sensing array that we built into an arm band in order to detect and localize finger taps on the forearm and hand. These include single-handed gestures, taps with different parts of the finger, and differentiating between materials and objects. We conclude with descriptions of several prototype applications that demonstrate the rich design space we believe Skinput enables.
