Voyager NCIC/ Nlets What is the most important piece to officer safety?
Alabama's Mobile Access Problem How do we provide this critical access to a disparate enterprise? • Large potential user base (~16,000 officers) • Large number of technically-challenged agencies • Diverse local hardware & wireless needs • Supporting diverse local business processes Did Not Want to Mandate a Single Solution
Technical Solution • Highly Configurable COTS Platform • Switch/Broker • SOA Architecture & Web Services • Disparate Wireless Network Support • Federated Query • Single Sign-on Integration
End User Issues & Support • Establish & document access policies • Customer service demands on ACJIC • Outsourced 24/7 call center for end users • Rapid configuration & problem resolution • ATSC integrated into ACJIC business workflow • Certification • Activation • Management • Technical Support
Best Practice/Lessons Learned • System is very end-user focused • Open standards approach works • Architecturally for state system • Programmatically for end agency adoption • State sponsorship drives take-up • Involve end users in product roadmap • Lower O&M cost supports long term viability
