Save vs. Save As Beth McKelvey
Saving a NEW file If you are saving a file that has NEVER been saved before, you can use SAVE or SAVE AS. They work the same way. They both open the SAVE AS window. The SAVE AS window allows you to choose WHERE to save the file and what FILE NAME to give it.
Re-saving a file If you want to save a file that you have already saved, use SAVE. There are 2 exceptions to that rule: • 1. If you want to save it with a new NAME and/or in a new LOCATION. Then you need to use SAVE AS. • 2. If you open an email attachment that you sent yourself or someone sent you, and you want to save it, you must use SAVE AS.
Example 1 • Let’s say you saved your file, Sally’s Superstore, on your flash drive. You just opened the file, and changed the font size and added a new column to the spreadsheet. Now you want to save the changes to the file on your flash drive. • Do you use SAVE or SAVE AS?
