  7. Drop off PARENT DROP OFF - MORNING STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BE DROPPED OFF IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT. DO NOT USE THE BUS LANE PARENT PICK UP - AFTERNOON STUDENTS WILL EXIT THE BUILDING USING DOOR 19 IN THE BACK OF THE BUILDING

  8. What if I need to pickup my student? Picking up Students We request that parents call the school at least 15 minutes prior to picking up their child so that we have ample time to get the student to the office. Pickup-ID required. Parent/guardian/designee picking up student will be required to show identification. Only people designed to the staff by parents (or named on the emergency med form) will be allowed to pick up students.

MIS Information Activities * Reward Days – Fun activity days planned throughout the year to recognize positive behavior. * Spirit Days – Planned dress up days to show school spirit and raise money for a variety of causes. * After-school events – seasonal programs, family night, community day, and others!

FYI Appropriate Dress • No sagging pants – No “short” shorts • No Inappropriate Graphics – No revealing shirts • Additional information is in the student handbook Electronics • Students may bring electronic devices to school at their own risk. • Cell phones need to be turned off and placed in their locker. Lunch/Recess • Students will have 40 minutes for lunch & 30 minutes for recess • Their is no cost for lunch as k-12 students Community Eligibility Provision • Parents /Guardians MAY NOT bring fast food items for lunch

ATTENDANCE / TARDY • Students are permitted 8 days where a parent may call them off for excused reasons. • Any absences after 8 will be considered unexcused unless medical documentation is provided. • Students can only be tardy 3 times per semester. After the third tardy they will serve a detention.

  13. Guest Entry Plan • Guests needing to visit MIS ( grades 4,5, and 6) will enter through door #31. • Door # 1 will Not be used during the school day as an entryway for guests to the building.

MIS Information Academics * MIS offers students the following academic assistance: - Individual enrichment for ALL students (Core & Tiger Time) - Block classes in ELA & Math - Social Studies, Writing and Science daily - Interdisciplinary Units/Lessons - Reading Intervention (Just Words) - Problem-Based Learning/Design Challenges - Multiple Exploratory Classes

  19. Locker Information A locker will be assigned to partners, we will help students learn how to work the combination. They are expected to lock up books and personal possessions to keep them safe. Do not share your locker combination with another student. They may decorate the inside of their locker – nothing that will permanently stick to the locker – no decorations on the outside. Locker size: 10 ¾” deep, 9” wide Wheeled book bags DO NOT fit!

  20. To Help Your 4th Grader Succeed at MIS: * Become involved! Join the PTO, attend events, attend conferences, listen to MIS all-calls, and email/call with questions or concerns! * Check Sunguard for updated grades and homework postings. * Visit the webpage at www.massillonschools.org for updated MIS information. * Check your child’s agenda – The MIS student handbook can be found here, including your child’s daily assignments! * Allow your child to become more independent! Intermediate students begin to assume more responsibility – please encourage and assist your child in this important step in their development! * Communication – We will do our best to communicate with you but if you’re not sure about something – PLEASE ask! We are happy to help in any way we can!

  23. What is a Targeted Assistance Building? Serve only students identified as failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet the State’s challenging student performance standards

  24. What areas are served by a targeted assistance building? • Reading and mathematics

  25. What services are available? • Supplemental tutoring services provided during the regular school day based on student needs • Computer assisted instruction • Extended school day learning opportunities • Before/after school

  26. What instructional strategies are used? Use of: • Effective strategies for improving student achievement based on scientifically-based research on teaching and learning • Multiple strategies used during in-class instruction in all academic areas • Additional instructional time and/or opportunities given to identified students

  27. What are the qualifications of the teacher providing the services? • All teachers are highly qualified and meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements • Parents have the right to know and can request the qualifications of the teacher delivery the services

  40. TO START THE DAY If you eat breakfast, please go straight to the cafeteria, eat and then go to your locker.

  42. When you are at your locker in the morning, you will need to get all of your supplies that you will need for the first half of the day.

  45. Grades Grading scale A 100% - 90% B 89% - 80% C 79% - 70% D 69% - 60% F 59% and below Grades are sent home at mid-term and at the end of quarter. They are also available through pinnacle. An online gradebook

  46. Students will be escorted when in the building. • the restroom • lunch • specials • recess Going to lockers and the restroom alone are not encouraged due to the lack of supervision.
