According to Oxford Advanced American Dictionary (2011) principled is having a strong belief about what is right and wrong. Chapter 1 pg 12 “‘Are ye sorry to leave Essendean?’ said he, after awhile. ‘Why, sir,’ said I, ‘if I knew where I was going, or what was likely to become of me, I would tell you candidly? Essendean is a good place indeed, and I have been very happy there; but then I have never been anywhere else. My father and mother, since they are both dead, I shall be no nearer to in Essendean than in the Kingdom of Hungary, and, to speak truth, if I thought I had a chance to better myself where I was going I would go with a good will.”
According Advanced American Dictionary (2011) is having quickly at learning and understanding things. • Chapter 9 pg 108 ‘There’s the skylight,’ said I. ‘But indeed, Mr. Stewart, I would need to have eyes upon both sides to keep the two of them; for when my face is at the one, my back is to the other.’ • Chapter 10 pg 111-112 I must have hit one of them, for he sang out and gave back a step, and the rest stopped as if a little disconcerted. Before they had time to recover, I sent another ball over their heads; and at my third shot (which went as wide as the second) the whole party threw down the yard and ran for it.
According Advanced American Dictionary (2011), sensitive is aware of and able to understand other people and their feelings. • Chapter 5 pg 59 “But all with such a dearth of likelihood in the details, and such a weak and crazy swagger in the delivery, as disposed me rather to pity than to believe him”. • Chapter 5 pg 60 “I have never felt such pity for anyone in this wide world as I felt for that half-witted creature, and it began to come over me that the brig Covenant (for all her pious name) was little better than a hell upon the seas”.
According to Oxford Advanced American Dictionary (2011) loyal is remaining faithful to someone or something and supporting them or it. • “Thereupon we all touches glasses and drank. I’m sure I wished no ill to King George; and if he had been there himself in proper person, it’s like he would have done as I did. No sooner had I taken out the drain than I felt hugely better, and could look on and listen, still a little mistily perhaps, but no longer with the same groundless horror and distress of mind”.
