  5. The Syllabus: Requirements • Class attendance is required. • If you miss a class, let me know ahead of time • you must provide the documented reason. • You are responsible for bringing yourself up-to-date on class material and assignments • Reading material before class is required

  6. The Syllabus: Assignments • Weekly Homework/Tutorial • 1 large project • HW/Tutorial and project must be returned by the deadline • Late penalty: 5 points per day

  7. The Syllabus: Exams • 2 Exams • 100 points each • 1 Final Exam • Comprehensive • 100 points • No Make-up exams • Except in extreme case and only if I have been notified prior the exam has been issued

  8. The Syllabus: Grade • HW and Projects 40% • Exams (2) 30% • Final Exam 20% • Participation 10% • Unless otherwise specified, • 90-100 is an A • 80-89 is a B • 70-79 is a C • 60-69 is a D • <60 is an F. • No + and – unless you request it.

  9. The Syllabus: Important Dates • Last day to withdraw before grade W is assigned: Jan 27 • Last day to drop the class: March 30 • Exam 1 is Tuesday, February 12 • Exam 2 is Thursday, March 27 • Final Exam is Thursday, May 10 • Spring Recess: March 17 – March 23 • Classes End: May 4, 2008

Let’s start! ----- E-mail • Short for electronic-mail • Sends electronic information from one computer to another • SMTP (Simple Mail transfer Protocol) - the set of rules that a computer need to use to be able to exchange electronic data over the Internet • E-mail is often used to deliver bulk unsolicited messages, or "spam" • Filters can be used to delete unwanted e-mail • Let’s use e-mail….

  13. E-mail: In class Assignment 1 In class Assignment 1: • Open an e-mail program. You can use Flashline if you never used e-mail before. • Create a message and send it to aguercio@kent.edu. • In the Subject write be “CS19995” • In the body of the message answer the following questions. If you do not the answer, just say “I do not know”. • What is your name and your class (freshman, sophomore, ect..)? • Briefly introduce yourself by telling me about yourself, your hobbies and anything you would like me to know about you. • What is your major? • Why did you choose this class? • Do you want a + and – in the final grade? • What is your experience with computers? • What would you expect to learn from this course? • What is your e-mail address? • What is your teacher’s e-mail address? • What is a URL? • What is the Web? • What is an Interface? • What does Web Interface Design mean? • Send the e-mail.
