  4. 889 suicides (deaths from intentional self harm and events of undetermined intent combined) in Scotland in 2011 • In 2011, the suicide rate for males was almost 3 times that for females • Suicide is a leading cause of mortality in those under 35 years old ScotPHO (Scottish Public Health Observatory) ISD (Information Services Division of NHS)
